NGC 6048 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble-type E2 in the constellation Small bear on northern sky . It is estimated to be 352 million light years from the Milky Way and about 225,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy IC 1187 .
The object was discovered by William Herschel on May 6, 1791 .
