NGC 6051 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E3 in the constellation Serpens, near the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 433 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 205,000 ly. In the same area of the sky there is a. a. the galaxy IC 4588 .
The object was discovered on June 20, 1881 by Édouard Stephan .
