NGC 6078 is a 15.2  mag bright elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E0 in the constellation Hercules in the northern sky . It is an estimated 423 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light years in diameter.

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 6074 and NGC 6083 .

The Type Ia supernova SN 2011dv was observed here.

The object was discovered by Édouard Stephan on June 21, 1876 .
