The Hamburg swimming club HSC was founded in 1879 and was the second pure swimming club in Germany at the time.
history
With the construction of the combined pool in Hamburg-Ohlsdorf (indoor and outdoor pools), the club's activities shifted to the north of the Hanseatic city . The club house was initially built in Justus-Strandes-Weg. In the 1990s, the clubhouse moved directly to the former entrance of the Ohlsdorf swimming pool. In 2004 the HSC celebrated its 125th anniversary with a large open house in the swimming pool.
The HSC has a wide range of offers in the areas of health and popular sports as well as swimming in the youth and performance area. There used to be an arts and diving department and water polo was played successfully . Diving was given up, the water polo department was spun off and has been a pillar of the water polo club Sportteam Hamburg since 1995 .
Personalities
HSC Erwin Sietas qualified three times for the Olympic Games . In 1936 he won the silver medal over 200 meters in Berlin. Two years earlier he had already become European champion over this route. In 1992 he was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame .
In September 2008, the multiple national champion and German record holder Steffen Deibler announced his move from the TG Biberach to the Hamburg swimming club. The freestyle and butterfly printer competed in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and 2012 in London, where he came fourth in the 100 m butterfly.
The younger of the two Deibler brothers, Markus Deibler , has also been swimming for Hamburger SC since 2009 . The freestyle and position specialist was founded in 2010 a. a. Vice world champion over 100 m medley at the Short Course World Championships in Dubai and was a participant in the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 and 2012 in London, where he was eighth over 200 m medley.
In April 2013, the freestyle specialist and Vice European Champion 2012 over 200 m freestyle, Silke Lippok , switched from SSG Pforzheim to Hamburger SC. Since the end of 2012 she has been training with Steffen and Markus Deibler under trainer Petra Wolfram at the Hamburg Olympic Training Center. Lippok was a participant in the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

2014
- In the 2nd Bundesliga North, the two first teams of the HSC achieved relegation in 7th place (female) and 3rd place (male).
- Markus Deibler swam a new short course world record over 100 m medley in 50.66 s on December 7, 2014 at the short course world championship in Doha (Qatar) and becomes short course world champion. Nine days later he ended his active competitive sports career.
2013
- In the spring of 2013, the first two teams (female and male) of Hamburger SC managed to move up from the DMS Landesliga to the 2nd Bundesliga North.
- On May 26, 2013, the HSC women's relay with the line-up of Katharina Stephan, Stephanie Hettich, Doreen Löwe and Marit Böhm swam a new Masters European record in the 120 age group over 4 × 100 m individual positions on the long track in 4: 43.78 minutes.
- At the German Championships in 2013, Steffen and Markus Deibler collected five championship titles together.
- Steffen Deibler swam a new German record in 23.02 s in the semifinals of the 50 m butterfly at the 2013 World Cup in Barcelona.
2010
- The brothers Steffen and Markus Deibler were the most successful medal collectors of the German Swimming Association at the European Short Course Championships in Eindhoven . Steffen was able to win three titles (50 m freestyle, 50 m and 100 m butterfly), Markus won the titles over 100 m and 200 m medley.
- Two of the three medals awarded by the German Swimming Association at the Short Course World Championships in Dubai were won by Steffen Deibler (bronze, 50 m butterfly) and Markus Deibler (silver, 100 m individual medley with a German record).
2009
- Steffen Deibler swam a new short course world record over 50 m butterfly in 21.80 s on November 14, 2009 in Berlin.
2008
- HSCer Marit Breitfeld was three times vice world champion at the Masters World Championships in Perth (Australia). The breaststroke swimmer won silver over 50, 100 and 200 meters in the age group 30–34.
- The 1st women's team of the HSC swam to eighth place in the DMS ( German Swimming Team Championships ) in the 2nd Bundesliga North.
- The first men's team of the HSC reached second place in the Hamburg regional league.
2007
- The male D-youth of the HSC won the national finals of the German youth team championships (DMSJ) and thus became German team champions.
- HSC woman Alessa Dörling achieved second place in the overall ranking of the Open Water European Cup.
- The 1st women's team of the HSC swam in the DMS ( German Swimming Championships ) in the 2nd Bundesliga North on the fifth place and thus managed confidently to stay in the league.
- The first men's team of the HSC reached third place in the Hamburg regional league this year.
