Erwin Sietas
Erwin Sietas (born July 24, 1910 in Hamburg ; † July 20, 1989 in Hamburg) was a German swimmer .
Life
Erwin Sietas swam for the Hamburg swimming club from 1879 . At the beginning of the 1930s he was one of the world's best breast swimmers and was able to win the silver medal over 200 m breasts behind Tetsuo Hamuro at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin . In 1934 he had already become European champion over this route. At the German Championships in 1929, 1932-1934 and 1937 he was German champion over 200 m breast.
In addition to swimming, Sietas was active as a water polo player. In 1992 he was inducted into the international swimming sport hall of fame .
Erwin Sietas was buried in Hamburg's Ohlsdorf cemetery , grid square AD 10 ( anonymous urn grove in front of the Riedemann mausoleum across from Chapel 8).
