David Wilkie (swimmer)

David Wilkie (born March 8, 1954 in Sri Lanka ) is a former Scottish swimmer .

He celebrated his first international success at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1970 when he won the bronze medal in the 200 meter chest . At these games, he was the first swimmer to wear a swimming cap in a major competition . At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , he won his first Olympic medal over 200 meters with a silver medal. Four years later, he was able to add the gold medal over 200 meters breast and the silver medal over 100 meters breast, which he won at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , to his collection of medals. In 1973 and 1975 he was also world champion in the 200 meter chest and in 1974 European champion in the 200 meter medley and 200 meter chest.

In 1982 he was inducted into the international swimming sports hall of fame .
