Giovanni Franceschi (born April 25, 1963 in Milan ) is a former Italian swimmer . He won two gold medals in swimming medley at the 1983 European Championships .
Career
Swimming career
Franceschi represented Italy together with his brother Raffaele Franceschi at the 1980 Summer Olympics , where he was eliminated in the 400 meter medley in the preliminary run. At the World Swimming Championships in Guayaquil in 1982 he won the bronze medal over 200 meters and was fourth over 400 meters medley. Franceschi achieved his greatest success at the 1983 European Swimming Championships in Rome with two gold medals in the 200 and 400 meter medley, each in a new European record . At the Olympic Summer Games in 1984 he was able to win his prelim over 400 meters individual medley, but was only eighth and last in the final. Over 200 meters individual medley he qualified as second in his heat for the B final, in which he finished third.
Franceschi swam a total of 22 Italian records, won 41 Italian championship titles in 50, 100, 200 and 400 meters freestyle, 100 and 200 meters back, 100 meters dolphin and 200 and 400 meters medley.
He now runs the Nuoto + SwimCamp in Riccione and Lignano Sabbiadoro , where swimming lessons are offered to improve swimming technique.
