Ian Lovett O'Brien (born March 3, 1947 in Wellington , New South Wales ) is a former Australian swimmer .
At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 , he was Olympic champion over 200 m chest and set a new world record with 2: 27.8 minutes . He also won the bronze medal with the 4 × 100 m layer relay of the Australians. Four years later, he retired in the 200m breaststroke and then ended his career. In 1985 he was inducted into the international swimming pool 's hall of fame .
