The British Empire and Commonwealth Games in 1966 were the eighth edition of the event now known as the Commonwealth Games . They took place from August 4th to 13th, 1966 in the Jamaican capital Kingston .

110 competitions were held in badminton , boxing , fencing , weightlifting , athletics , cycling , wrestling , shooting and swimming (including diving ). 1050 athletes from 34 countries took part. The main competition site was Independence Park .
