Gerald Mörken

Gerald Mörken (born November 12, 1959 in Dortmund ) is a former German swimmer .

At the end of the 1970s, he replaced Walter Kusch as the best German breaststroke swimmer. At the European Swimming Championships in Jönköping in 1977, he won three gold medals. He won on both chest courses and the individual relay relay. He set a new world record over 100 meters chest with 1: 02.86 minutes. At the 1978 World Swimming Championships in Berlin, he won bronze over 100 meters in a final that Walter Kusch won. After he was not allowed to take part in the 1980 Olympic Games because of the boycott of the Federal Republic of Germany, he proved that he belonged to the world class in the early 1980s. He won bronze over 100 meters breast at both the 1981 European Championships in Split and 1983 in Rome. At the 1982 World Cup in Guayaquil, he won the bronze medal with the relay and silver at the 1983 European championship. In 1984 Mörken was able to take part in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles . He finished seventh in the 100 meter chest and fourth in the relay.
