Brendan Joseph Hansen (born August 15, 1981 in Havertown , Pennsylvania ) is an American swimmer who specializes in the chest style .

Career

Hansen lives and trains in Austin , Texas . He studied there until 2005 at the University of Texas , where he received a degree in alternative medicine .

Although Hansen set new world records in the 100 m and 200 m chest in the American Olympic elimination in 2004 , he did not become an individual Olympic champion at the 2004 Summer Games in Athens . He won the silver medal in the 100 m and bronze in the 200 m breaststroke. Instead, he won gold with the 4 × 100 m tier relay in world record time. At the 2005 World Swimming Championships in Montreal , Hansen was world champion in the 100 m and 200 m breaststroke and with the 4 × 100 m individual relay.

At the 2008 Olympic Games , Hansen showed a mixed performance. He was only able to win over the 100 m breaststroke and buy an Olympic ticket for Beijing , as he only finished fourth over the 200 m breaststroke and thus failed to qualify over this distance.
