Jason Edward Lezak (born November 12, 1975 in Irvine , California ) is an American swimmer .

Career

Lezak specializes in short freestyle courses . He trains in Irvine and studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara . In the course of his career he set several world records with the US freestyle and medley relay.

At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , Lezak was the final swimmer of the US men's 4 × 100 m freestyle final relay. He managed to overtake the French Alain Bernard who was apparently unreachable in front of him and to decide the race for the USA with an 8/100 second lead. He swam with 46.06 seconds on 100 m freestyle, the fastest time ever set with a flying start and in 3: 08.24 minutes a world record with the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay.
