Marius Kusch (born May 5, 1993 in Datteln ) is a German swimmer who specializes in butterfly swimming. His greatest success so far is the 2019 European Championship title over 100 meters butterfly on the short course.

Career

Marius Kusch started swimming at SSC Datteln. from 2004 to 2009 he was with SV Blau-Weiß Recklinghausen and then moved to SG Essen , where he was trained by Henning Lambertz . From 2013 to 2015 he was active at SG Stadtwerke München . At the beginning of 2016 he went to the United States to the Queens University of Charlotte ( North Carolina ). Since May 2019 he has lived in San Diego , California . In Germany he starts again at championships for the SG Essen.

At the European Short Course Championships 2017 in Copenhagen , he won the bronze medal over 100 meters butterfly. In 2018 he won the bronze medal with the German layer relay at the European Championships in Glasgow . At the European Short Course Championships in 2019 , again in Glasgow, he won the 100 meter butterfly title in a new German record time of 49.06 seconds. This undercut the old record set by Steffen Deibler in 2009 by 0.17 s.
