SG Essen

The SG Essen is an amalgamation of the swimming departments of a total of 13 sports and swimming clubs from Essen and one of the most successful swimming sports communities in West Germany. The women's team of SG Essen swims in the 1st Bundesliga and became German champions there in the 2008/09 season, while the men's team rose to the 1st Bundesliga in 2008 as champions of the 2nd Bundesliga West.

The most famous swimmers of the SG Essen are the two breast specialists World Champion Mark Warnecke and Vice World Champion Anne Poleska , both of whom have since ended their careers. At the moment, the reigning vice world champion in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay and over 50 m back is Daniela Samulski , the reigning fourth place in the world championship and European record holder over 50 m chest Hendrik Feldwehr , the Olympic participant Lisa Vitting and the two world championship semi-finalists Caroline Ruhnau and Kerstin Vogel Members of the top team in the SG Essen. The trainer is Henning Lambertz , who is also the full-time federal base trainer of the DSV . Since December 2008, Essen has also been the federal swimming base .
