Daniela Samulski , married Daniela Schwienke (born May 31, 1984 in Berlin ; † May 22, 2018 ) was a German swimmer .

Career

As a 16-year-old Samulski took part in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . After leaving school at age 19 at the sports school of the Berlin Werner Seelenbinder School , from which the later school and Sports Center Berlin emerged, she went to the army and focused as a sports soldier of sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr in Warendorf on swimming. She started in the disciplines of butterfly , freestyle and back , especially over the shorter distances. She was European relay champion in 2006, multiple German champion in individual and relay competitions and European record holder over 50 m back.

Samulski began her career at SV Preußen Berlin . From 2001 to 2008 she started for the SG Bayer Wuppertal / Uerdingen / Dormagen , where she most recently trained with Henning Lambertz (together with Sarah Poewe and Steffen Driesen ). In September 2008 she followed Lambertz to SG Essen . 2009 was the most successful of her career with three World Cup medals.

At the beginning of 2011, Samulski announced her retirement from competitive sports, withdrew from the public and concentrated on studying social work at the University of Duisburg-Essen . It was also first announced in 2011 that Samulski suffered from abdominal cancer .

In May 2018 Daniela Samulski died at the age of 33 from complications from her cancer . She left her husband and a child.

  • World record over 50 m back (long track) on July 29, 2009 at the World Championships in Rome (time: 00: 27.39), only 3 minutes later by the Russian Anastassija Sujewa in the semifinals by a hundredth of a second
