The School and Competitive Sports Center Berlin (SLZB) is an integrated secondary school in Berlin-Alt-Hohenschönhausen . Until 2014 it consisted of two locations - the Sportforum and the European Sports Park. The SLZB emerged from the merger of the two sports high schools Werner-Seelenbinder-Schule and Coubertin-Gymnasium as part of a school trial .

concept

The educational concept of the SLZB is geared towards the needs of high-performance students and enables all educational qualifications according to the Berlin School Act. The declared aim of the SLZB is optimal sporting support for children and young people in harmony with a good school education. The SLZB is one of the 43 German elite schools of sport that offer a dual career and, after 2007, has again received the award "Best elite school of sport 2014" from the German Olympic Sports Confederation.

Conditions for registration

Besides the formation recommendation (junior high school or high school), the last witness the end result of all sports professional examinations and a health report of the Center for Sports Medicine's recommendation is by for recording on SLZB Landessportbund decisive.

type of school

The SLZB is an all-day school . As part of the all-day operation, attempts are made to alleviate the double burden of school and training through targeted support measures. The methods include individual and group lessons, support and remedial lessons, integration of e-learning and vacation lessons . Additional measures include low class sizes, extended school hours and duplication (teaching in the core subjects of German, mathematics and English is reinforced in terms of personnel. Per class and per core subject, two additional school hours are offered per week, i.e. a total of six hours per week).

Supported sports

In general, there is a subdivision into profile and project sports. Profile sports that are funded at the SLZB are:

From grade 5

  • Figure skating (except synchronized skating)
  • swim
  • Gymnastics (male)
  • Gymnastics (female)
  • Diving

From grade 7

Project sports that are supported at the SLZB from grade 7:

  • Boxing

  • Handball

Individual training courses are possible in other Olympic sports that are coordinated with the Berlin State Sports Association .

Staying or leaving the SLZB

The decisive criterion is the athletic performance of the individual athletes. At the end of the competitive sports career, there is no entitlement to special athletic or school support and further visits to the SLZB. In these cases, the SLZB must be left after the 6th, 8th or 10th grade. Further school support will initially remain open.

New construction and merging of the former two locations

At the beginning of the 2014/15 school year, the new or extension and the gym at the Sportforum site were completed and handed over to the school. The key handover took place on July 13, 2015. Thus the former Coubertin-Gymnasium and Werner-Seelenbinder-Schule have merged at one location to form the SLZB.
