Integrated secondary school
The Integrated Secondary School (ISS) is a type of school that has existed in the State of Berlin since 2010 . It is part of a two-pillar model with the grammar school and replaces the secondary school , the secondary school and the comprehensive school .
Differences from high school
Various degrees can be obtained at the integrated secondary school :
- the vocational qualification (after the 9th or 10th grade),
- the extended vocational qualification (after the 10th grade),
- the middle school leaving certificate (after the 10th grade) and
- the Abitur (after 13th grade).
In addition, there is no need to “stay seated”, which is the failure to move to the next grade if the school grades are insufficient. A performance-differentiated lesson can be realized in different ways, by setting up courses at different skill levels or by internal differentiation in mixed learning groups. The individual schools decide for themselves which method is chosen. The integrated secondary school also waives a probationary period, also because with the introduction of the school type there are no more schools to which pupils could be transferred who would not pass a probationary period.
