Caroline Ruhnau (born October 16, 1984 in Münster ) is a German swimmer .
She is multiple German champion over 50, 100 and 200 meters chest. In 2009 she briefly set a German record over 100 meters in the short course World Cup in Berlin with 1: 05.55 minutes . At the German Short Course Championships in her hometown of Essen in the same year , she got the record back with a time of 1: 04.78 minutes.
Ruhnau celebrated her greatest international success to date at the European Short Course Championships in Istanbul in 2009 when she won the European title over 100 meters breaststroke. She won further medals with bronze with the 4 × 100-meter medley relay at the 2010 European championships, silver with the 4 × 50-meter medley relay at the European short course championships in the same year and gold with the 4 × at the 2012 European championships 100-meter medley relay (use in the preliminary) and bronze in the individual over 50 meters chest. At the Olympic Games in London , she swam over 100 meters chest and with the German 4 × 100 m individual medley relay, but was eliminated in each case in advance.
Ruhnau lives in Essen and starts for the SG Essen under their trainer Henning Lambertz.
She was named Sportswoman of the Year by the Sports Association of the City of Münster at the Ball des Sports 2000 and 2009.
