The Swell Season is a music duo consisting of the Irish guitarist Glen Hansard and the Czech singer Markéta Irglová .
Surname
The name has its origins in a story of the same name by Josef Škvorecký from 1975.
history
Since they starred together in Once 2007, their notoriety has increased. Since then, they have been using the name The Swell Season , even though they used their real names for a feature on the I'm Not There soundtrack in 2007 . The first album, The Swell Season , came out shortly after the Czech director Jan Hřebejk asked the two of them if they could record a few songs for his film Beauty in Trouble . It was the first album that Glen Hansard recorded independently from his band The Frames .
Some of the tracks also appeared on other releases, Falling Slowly and When Your Mind's Made Up on The Frames album The Cost , Falling Slowly, When Your Mind's Made Up , Lies and Leave on the Once soundtrack.
Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglová parodied themselves in the Simpsons episode In the Name of Grandfather (episode 14, season 20).
The following album, Strict Joy , was released on October 27, 2009. In addition to a normal CD and vinyl version, a version with live CD and DVD was released.
In 2011 the documentary The Swell Season - The Love Story After Once was released. This deals with the band's tour and the lives of Hansard and Irglová after the success of the film Once.
