Markéta Irglová (born February 28, 1988 in Valašské Meziříčí ) is a Czech musician, singer and actress.

Life and work

Markéta came to music at the age of seven. Her parents gave Irglová the first piano and enrolled her in the music school. When she was nine, she learned to play the guitar from her father. Markéta's father supervised a concert by Glen Hansard's band The Frames and then invited the group to his house. At the time, Markéta was 13 years old. Glen visited her father over the years to write songs on site. Together they wrote the score for the Irish film Once in 2006 , in which they also appeared as the leading actor. In 2008 they received the Oscar for the best song for the song "Falling Slowly" . The film also won the Sundance Film Festival Audience Award . In addition, Once was nominated for a Grammy and received the LAFCA Award 2007 for best film music.

The first joint album as The Swell Season was released in 2006. The second album followed at the end of October 2009; it's called Strict Joy . In autumn 2011, Irglová's first solo album Anar was released . In the same year the documentary The Swell Season was released, which deals with the life of Hansard and Irglová after the success of the film Once. Both maintained a relationship as a result of the film.

In 2011 Irglová moved to New York and in July 2011 married the sound engineer Tim Iseler (Iseler Communication), with whose help she recorded her album Anar . In 2012 the divorce from Iseler followed and the move to Iceland , where Irglová recorded her solo album Muna in 2014 .

With her partner Sturla Mio Thorisson, a musician and producer, she had a daughter named Árveig Sturlasdóttir in November 2013 and a son named Eyvindur Högni in August 2015.
