Glen Hansard
Glen Hansard (born April 21, 1970 in Dublin ) is an Irish singer , guitarist and actor .
Life and work
Glen Hansard began his musical career as a street musician in Dublin.
He is the singer and guitarist of the Irish rock band The Frames and was the leading actor in Once . Its director John Carney was bassist for The Frames until 1993. Hansard also played the character Outspan Foster in the musical film The Commitments .
Together with Markéta Irglová he recorded an album of the same name in 2006 under the name The Swell Season . Together they also wrote the film music for Once in 2006 . For the title Falling Slowly from the soundtrack they received the Oscar in the category Best Song in 2008 . In Germany, the song only became more popular in 2011 through an interpretation during the casting show The Voice of Germany . The second joint album by Hansard and Irglová was released in late October 2009; it's called Strict Joy .
In the fall of 2011, Hansard toured Europe as a solo artist and then began working on his first solo album in New York. On June 15, 2012 he released the album Rhythm and Repose . He also wrote a piece called Take The Heartland for the soundtrack of The Hunger Games, The Hunger Games .
In 2013 he worked again with the director John Carney. This time only as a songwriter. For the film Can a Song Save Your Life? he wrote the song Coming Up Roses with Danielle Brisebois , which is sung by Keira Knightley in the film .
