Life

Brisebois was already featured in commercials at the age of three. She made her film debut as a child actor in The Trauma in 1976 and was seen in the Broadway premiere of Annie between 1977 and 1979 as the orphan Molly on the theater stage. Her singing as Molly can be heard as a sample on Jay-Z's piece Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem) . In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Brisebois starred as Stephanie Mills in the television series All in the Family and Archie Bunker's Palace . For her portrayal in Archie Bunker's Palace , she won a Youth in Film Awards (now Young Artist Award ) in 1982 for Best Actress in a TV Series and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Mini-Series, or TV Movie . Until the late 1980s, Brisebois continued to appear in children's and youth roles, primarily in television series.

After ending her film career at the age of 18, Brisebois focused on music. She initially worked as a background singer for Gregg Alexander , with whom she has worked regularly since. He was one of the guest musicians on their 1994 debut album Arrive All Over You ; the resulting single Gimme Little Sign reached number 51 in the German and number 75 in the British charts in 1995. From 1998 she was part of Alexander's band New Radicals , which disbanded in 1999. Brisebois' second album Portable Life was released in 1999. From 2008 Brisebois was part of the group The Not So Silent Majority around Gregg Alexander, Rusty Anderson and Rick Nowels , who supported Barack Obama with their song Obama Rock in the election campaign. Occasionally Brisebois' singing is compared to Alanis Morissette 's.

In addition to her own music career, Brisebois is also active as a lyricist for other singers. She wrote songs for Kelly Clarkson ( Just Missed the Train ), Leona Lewis ( Alive , Let It Rain ) and Kylie Minogue (including Boombox , I'm Just Here for the Music ), among others . Her hits include Unwritten and Pocketful of Sunshine by Natasha Bedingfield ; for Pocketful of Sunshine , Brisebois received a 2009 Robert S. Musel Award from the BMI Awards for Song of the Year. For her song Lost Stars from the film Can a Song Save Your Life? Brisebois received an Oscar nomination for Best Song in 2015 . It was the first time Brisebois had contributed the music to a film; in Can a Song Save Your Life? she was also seen as a singer.
