Unwritten is a song by the English singer Natasha Bedingfield . Bedingfield, Danielle Brisebois and Wayne Rodriguez wrote the song for their debut album Unwritten . The song was released in November 2004 as the third single on the album in the United Kingdom and in 2006 as the second single on the album in the United States. The song peaked at number 5 on the official US Billboard Hot 100 chart , making it her first top ten hit in the United States.

The song earned Bedingfield a Grammy nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 2006 Grammy Awards . To promote the single, two different music videos were shot. The first was filmed in the UK in 2004 and the second in New York City in 2006 .

Charts

After the song had placed 5 in the American charts for two weeks, Unwritten reached 6th place in the American annual charts in 2006. Unwritten remained on the Billboard Hot 100 for a total of 38 weeks, 13 weeks of which in the top ten. By June 2011, the song had sold 2,731,000 in the United States, earning two platinum records.

It was the third highest-grossing song by an artist in the United States in 2006, behind Hips Don't Lie by Shakira and Wyclef Jean and Promiscuous by Nelly Furtado and Timbaland . Unwritten wasn't as successful in the UK as their subsequent number one hit, These Words , but reached number 6. It is one of the few Bedingfield songs to be more successful in North America than in Europe. In Germany, the song reached number 22 in the single charts and topped the airplay charts for five weeks .
