Career

Poleska participated in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . Her specialty was the 200 m chest distance. After the games in Sydney, she decided to study and train in the United States at the University of Alabama . A first success of the training work in the USA was a World Cup victory in New York in 2001 over 200 m chest on the short course.

At the 2003 World Swimming Championships in Barcelona , she was fourth in the 200 m breaststroke, and at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , her greatest success to date was achieved: she won the bronze medal in the 200 m breaststroke.

For this she was awarded the silver bay leaf on March 16, 2005 .

At the 2005 World Swimming Championships in Montreal , she won silver over the 200 m breaststroke and only had to admit defeat to Leisel Jones , who set a new world record with 2: 21.72 minutes.

After Franziska van Almsick ended her active career, Anne Poleska was one of the most prominent swimmers of the DSV and was called the “face of German swimming”. She started for SG Krefeld. At the Swimming World Championships in Melbourne in 2007 , she was eliminated on her parade route - the 200 meters chest - in advance because she had torn a ligament at the training camp two weeks before the World Cup.

At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , she finished tenth-best time in the semifinals in 2: 26.71 minutes and thus just missed the finals. She then stated that she wanted to end her international career now.

Poleska was looked after by Michael Lohberg until his death in April 2011 . She lived in Coral Springs for her studies and is married to the rower Jochen Urban .
