Michael Lohberg

Michael Lohberg (* 1950 in Krefeld ; † April 4, 2011 in Boca Raton , Florida ) was a German swimming coach.

Career

Lohberg studied mathematics at the University of Cologne and physiology at the German Sports University in Cologne. He started his career as a trainer in Krefeld with the Swimming Sport Friends (SSF). At the end of the 1980s, he led the swimming and sport friends Bonn five times to the German team championship. After moving to the United States, he trained the St. Croix Dolphins and Mission Bay Mako's before settling permanently in Florida.

Lohberg led the athletes he supervised to six Olympic Games between 1984 and 2004, including Anne Poleska and Wladislaw Polyakow . He also coached Dara Torres in 2008 , who won three gold medals in the Olympics.

Shortly before the 2008 Olympics, he was diagnosed with aplastic anemia . He died as a result of the illness in April 2011. Lohberg was married and had two children.
