Philip Heintz (born February 21, 1991 in Mannheim ) is a German swimmer .

Career

Since Philip Heintz graduated from the Liselotte-Gymnasium in Mannheim in 2010 , he has been studying geosciences at Heidelberg University . He started for SV Mannheim since he was a child , and in 2014 he moved to SV Nikar Heidelberg . The butterfly specialist achieved his first international successes at the 2009 Junior European Championships, where he won the 100 m butterfly and the bronze medal with the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay.

Heintz won his first men's title at the German Short Course Championships 2011 in Wuppertal over 100 m butterfly. A year later he achieved second places in the 200 m butterfly and 200 m medley as well as a third place over 100 m butterfly on the long course. His first international championship was the 2012 European Championships in Debrecen , where he was 20th over 50 m butterfly and 11th over 100 m butterfly. In addition to Markus Deibler , he qualified for the 200 m medley race at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London , where he finished 27th in 2: 01.32 minutes and thus missed the semifinals by 1.05 seconds.

At the European Short Course Championship 2013 in Herning , Denmark , Heintz surprisingly won gold in the 200 m medley in 1: 53.98 min. This year he was elected Sportsman of the Year for the city of Mannheim . He won the silver medal at the European Championships in 2014 over 200 m medley. Over the same distance, he finished fifth at the 2014 Short Course World Championships and won the silver medal at the 2015 European Short Course Championships in Netanya (Israel).

At the 2016 World Short Course Championships in Windsor (Canada), he again won silver in the 200 m individual medley. In the same year he was sixth at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro with a German record of 1: 57.48 min . He improved this record twice in the following year at the German Championships in 2017 to the world's best time of 1: 55.76 minutes. At the following World Championships in 2017 he was unable to confirm this performance and finished seventh in 1: 57.43 min. At the 2019 World Championships , he finished fourth in 1: 56.86 minutes.
