Christian Diener (born June 3, 1993 in Cottbus ) is a German swimmer from the OSC Potsdam , who lives in Potsdam and is trained there by Jörg Hoffmann .

In 2011 he was junior world champion and in 2010 and 2011 junior European champion over 50 meters back , in 2011 also over 100 and 200 meters.

In the 4 × 50 m layer relay, he won bronze at the 2011 European Short Course Championships . At the European Short Course Championships in 2013 he won silver over 50 meters back and in the 4 × 50 m mixed relay as well as bronze over 200 meters back and in the 4 × 50 m individual relay. After the Russian Witali Melnikow , who was second over 100 meters back, was subsequently convicted of doping offenders, Diener was awarded the bronze rank and silver in the 4 × 50 m individual relay.

His greatest success so far is the runner-up European title over 200 meters back in 2014 in Berlin. Over 100 meters and with the layer relay, he took fourth place. At the 2016 Olympic Games, he was the only German swimmer who set a new personal best in all of his starts.

education

Diener's swimming career was recognized and promoted very early on. After he dropped the seahorse, he began swimming training at PSV Cottbus 90 and attended the “sports-oriented elementary school” in Cottbus from grade 4 onwards, so that well-coordinated training between the club and school was possible both before and after class. His coaching team Uwe Sachse and Petra Petrov led him to his first successes at the Brandenburg state championships. A strong interest in competitive sports recommended him for admission to the sports school "Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn" in Potsdam (Olympic base and federal youth base in swimming), which he attended from summer 2005. There he was promoted to a young talent by his coaches Marko Letz and Jörg Hoffmann , who won medals at both the German year-old championships and the European youth and youth world championships. His training group was a very strong group, so he was able to win the 2009 School World Championship with her. He improved numerous German age group records during this time. In order to get the time-consuming training and the school career better under one roof, he extended his secondary level 2 so that he passed his Abitur in spring 2013 .

After graduating from high school, he was accepted into the Bundeswehr 's sports promotion group and became a sports soldier . Thus he was able to take part in the military world championships with numerous successes. Diener started studying civil engineering at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences . After taking part in the 2016 Olympic Games, he started a dual course of study at the University of Applied Sciences for Sport and Management in Potsdam.
