Vitaly Viktorovich Melnikow ( Russian: Виталий Викторович Мельников ; born March 20, 1990 in Voronezh ) is a former Russian swimmer .

Career

In 2008 he won bronze over 50 m back at the European Junior Championships in Belgrade . He has been training in Italy since 2011.

Doping abuse 2013

At the European Short Course Championships 2013 in Herning, he won the silver medal over 100 m back, the gold medal with the 4 × 50 m individual relay relay and the gold medal with the mixed 4 × 50 m individual relay relay. However, he tested positive for EPO during doping follow-up examinations . He renounced the analysis of the B sample and declared his resignation. The medals were stripped from him and he was banned for two years.

New doping ban in 2016

In March 2016, Melnikov took part in the qualifying races for the Olympic Games in Rio. He was tested positive for growth hormones and then banned for eight years.
