The 97th German Swimming Championships took place from June 24th to 29th, 1985 in the Lennep indoor pool in Remscheid . The title fights also served as a qualifying competition for the 1985 European Championships in Sofia . Michael Groß was the most successful athlete of this championship with his six titles and with his two world records over 400 meters freestyle and 200 meters butterfly he also provided the sporting highlights of these championships.
