Iris Zscherpe

Iris Zscherpe (later Iris Hoffmann , born January 7, 1967 in Berlin ) is a former German swimmer who competed for the Federal Republic of Germany . She won an Olympic bronze medal in 1984.

Iris Zscherpe started for SG Schöneberg Berlin. Her first international success was the bronze medal with the 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay at the 1983 European Swimming Championships together with Karin Seick , Susanne Schuster and Ina Beyermann . At the German swimming championships in 1984 she was third in the 200 meter freestyle, but she missed the final over 100 meter freestyle. In the B-final she swam a personal best in 57.43 seconds and qualified for the freestyle relay at the 1984 Olympic Games . In Los Angeles, Zscherpe finished ninth in the 100 meter freestyle in 57.19 seconds and tenth in the 200 meter freestyle in 2: 03.42 minutes. The relay won the bronze medal in the line-up of Iris Zscherpe, Susanne Schuster, Christiane Pielke and Karin Seick.

At the European Swimming Championships in 1985 , as every time from 1970 to 1989, the relay from the GDR won, with Zscherpe, Schuster, Pielke and Seick winning the silver medal. At the German Championships in 1986 Zscherpe won over 50 meters and over 200 meters freestyle.
