Petra Zindler

Petra Zindler (born February 11, 1966 in Cologne ) is a former German swimmer who competed for the Federal Republic of Germany . She won an Olympic bronze medal in 1984.

Petra Zindler started for SV Rhenania Köln and trained with Gerhard Hetz and Elmar Schneider. In 1981 and 1982 she won the title over 200 meters breaststroke at the German championships as well as the title on both single-layer courses, and up to 1985 she won the two single-layer titles five times in a row. In addition, in 1983 and 1985 she won the title over 200 meters butterfly and 1985 the title over 200 meters freestyle.

At the European Championships in Split in 1981 , she finished fourth both over 200 meters butterfly and over 400 meters medley; She finished seventh over 200 meters. At the 1982 World Swimming Championships in Guayaquil she reached both medley finals, over 200 meters she was eighth, over 400 meters sixth. In 1983 at the European Championships in Rome she was third in the 400 meter medley, sixth in the 200 meter medley and seventh in the 200 meter butterfly. She won silver with the 4 × 200 meter freestyle relay.

At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , Zindler was seventh in the 200 meter medley and received bronze in the 400 meter medley. In 1985 she won a bronze medal when she came third at the European Championships in Sofia in the 200 meter butterfly.
