Peter Bermel
Peter Bermel (born June 25, 1967 in Hamburg ) is a German swimmer who started for SG Hamburg in the 1980s . He is 1.90 m tall and weighed 85 kg when he was active. Bermel won several German championships and was also successful internationally.
German championships
- 200 m individual medley: 1985 , 1986 , 1987 , 1989 and 1990
- 400 m individual medley: 1985 , 1987 and 1989
European championships
- In 1985 Bermel won bronze at the European Championships in Sofia, behind the Hungarian Tamás Darnyi (gold in 2: 03.23 minutes) and the Czech Josef Hladký (silver in 2: 04.13 minutes). His time of 2: 04.47 minutes meant a German record.
- In 1987 in Strasbourg he started in the 200 and 400 m medley and in 1989 in Bonn over the 200 m medley, but did not get into the medal ranks.
World championships
Bermel took part in the 1986 World Championships in Madrid and 1991 in Perth . He achieved his best result in Madrid, where he came fourth in the 200 m medley.
Olympic games
At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 , Bermel competed in the 200 and 400 m individual medley and achieved the following placements:
- 200 m medley: 5th place in 2: 03.81 minutes (gold went to Tamás Darnyi, who swam the world record in 2: 00.17).
- 400 m medley: 8th place in 4: 24.02 minutes (Tamás Darnyi also won gold in the world record time of 4: 14.75 minutes)
