Sonja Schöber

Sonja Schöber (born July 9, 1985 in Hörde ) is a German swimmer . In 2007 she was German champion in the 100 m chest and German runner-up in the 50 m chest. She lives in Hörde and starts for SG Dortmund under her trainer Volker Höltke. She is currently studying English and German at the Ruhr University in Bochum .

Career

Schöber has been swimming for SC Delphin Dortmund since January 1st, 1995 . She competes for the Dortmund swimming community, an amalgamation of five Dortmund swimming clubs. She has been sponsored by the German Swimming Association since 2001 , initially she was a member of the C-team for a few years, and in early 2006 she was appointed to the B-team. She is also part of the perspective team for the 2012 Olympics. She is also a member of the top team of the North Rhine-Westphalia Swimming Association , and since the end of 2005 she has also been the active spokesperson there.

Your preferred disciplines are the different breast (50 m, 100 m, 200 m) and the layers -Strecken (100 m, 200 m), in the future she would like, however, to concentrate on the 100m breast-route. She swims 55 to 58 km a week in training.

Doping allegations

As it became known on November 18, 2009, there is a suspected doping case against Sonja Schöber. During a doping control after the training camp in summer 2009, abnormal testosterone or epi-testosterone levels were found. Until the end of the procedure, Sonja Schöber was banned so that she was not allowed to participate in the German short course championships in 2009 from November 26th to 29th.

On April 29, the athlete was sentenced to a year-long competition ban at the arbitration hearing in Kassel, which was set until November 5, 2010. In November 2010 the International Court of Justice for Sports ( CAS) extended the ban for another year until November 5, 2011.

Sporting successes

International success

At the 2001 European Junior Championships in Malta , she won the gold medal with the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay in 3: 50.42 minutes and was fourth in the 50 m freestyle in 0: 26.59 minutes. The year before, she won the silver medal in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay at the 2000 European Junior Championships in Dunkirk .

At the European Short Course Championships 2006 (December 4-7, 2006 in Helsinki ) she reached the final three times in individual competitions. Over 100 m medley she swam 7th place with 1: 02.09 minutes, over 50 m chest with 0: 31.81 minutes and over 100 m chest with 1: 08.13 minutes, each in 8th place.

She took part in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. However, their results were not enough to survive a preliminary round. In the two preliminary runs of the disciplines 100 m chest and 200 m medley she was last.

German championships

At the 119th German Swimming Championships (April 11-15, 2007 in Berlin ), she achieved the gold medal in the 100 m breaststroke with a new personal best of 1: 09.20 minutes. She relegated the German record holder Sarah Poewe ( SG Bayer Wuppertal / Uerdingen / Dormagen ) and the defending champion Simone Weiler ( SV Nikar Heidelberg ) to third and fifth. In 1988 Frank Henter was the last Dortmund to win a German championship title over 50 m butterfly in swimming. On the 50 m chest course she was second with 0: 31.86 minutes, almost half a second behind Janne Schäfer (TV Jahn Wolfsburg ) and two hundredths of a second ahead of Kerstin Vogel (SV Rhenania Köln). She also took fifth place over 50 m freestyle with 0: 26.29 minutes and sixth place over 200 m chest with 2: 33.53 minutes.

At the German Winter Championships 2006 (November 23-26, 2006 in Hanover ) she achieved the silver medal in the 50 m chest with 0: 32.33 minutes. It was only beaten by Janne Schäfer, who set a new German record in 0: 30.89 minutes .

At the 118th German Swimming Championships (June 20-25, 2006 in Berlin), she achieved a bronze medal in the 50 m chest in 0: 32.40 minutes and three fourth places in the 200 m individual medley, 100 m chest and fourth place × 100 m layer stack.

German short course championships

At the German short course championships between 2000 and 2005 she was able to win a total of 8 medals:

  • German Short Course Championships 2002 in Goslar : Bronze medal over 100 m medley in 1: 02.93 minutes
  • German Short Course Championships 2003 in Gelsenkirchen : Bronze medal over 200 m medley in 2: 15.00 minutes
  • German Short Course Championships 2004 in Essen : two bronze medals over 100 m medley in 1: 03.14 minutes and over 200 m medley in 2: 15.03 minutes
  • German Short Course Championships 2005 in Essen: three silver medals over 100 m breaststroke in 1: 08.22 minutes, over 100 m medley in 1: 02.38 minutes and over 200 m medley in 2: 15.37 minutes

More Achievements

She is German university champion 2006 in the disciplines of 50 m chest, 50 m freestyle and 200 m medley as well as vice university champion over 100 m chest and 100 m freestyle. She is also a multiple German year-old champion in the 50 m freestyle, 100 m freestyle and 200 m medley.

As the final swimmer of the SG Dortmund and friends , she contributed to a new Guinness world record in the relay swim over 100,000 m in the Volksbad Dortmund on September 9, 2006 . The old world record was beaten by 5:33 hours with a time of 22:48:43 hours.

Together with Julia Leidgebel , Meike Lambertz and Jacqueline Daszkiewicz she holds the German record for 4 × 50m breaststroke in 2: 14.13 minutes for relays.

Awards

Sonja Schöber was named Dortmund's Sportswoman of the Year 2006 . She was also a five-time winner of the Young Sport Promotion Prize of the Stadtsparkasse Dortmund and the German Olympic Society. In the elections of the NRW Swimming Association for Youth Swimmer of the Year 2001 , Swimmer of the Year 2005 and Swimmer of the Year 2006 , she came in second.

In 2000 and 2001 she was a member of the youth national team of the German Swimming Association.

Private

She was a student at the Phoenix High School in Hörde, where she graduated from high school in 2005 .

The day after she won the silver medal at the German Winter Championships in 2006, an improperly attached starting block fell on her foot while she was swimming in, causing a deep laceration and torn ligament on the toe joint. She then had to cancel all other starts at the winter championships. She could not take part in the German Championships in 2004 because she had to undergo emergency surgery because of a ruptured appendix.
