Nina Schiffer (born January 3, 1991 in Cologne ) is a former German swimmer . She is German champion 2008 over 200 m butterfly and German runner-up over 400 m medley . She lives in Dortmund and trained at SG Dortmund under coach Volker Höltke .

Career

Schiffer has been involved in competitive sports since around 2000, first with SPVGG Lülsdorf - Ranzel , then with SSF Sieglar . From 2002 to 2008 she swam for the SSF Bonn . She has been swimming for SG Dortmund since 2008 . Since 2006 she has been promoted to the C-squad of the German Swimming Association , with her German championship title she will soon be promoted to the B-squad. Furthermore, she is a member of the promotional team I of the North Rhine-Westphalia Swimming Association .

Her favorite disciplines are the butterfly (50 m, 100 m, 200 m) and the individual courses (200 m, 400 m).

Sporting successes

International success

At the European Short Course Championships in 2006 (December 4-7, 2006 in Helsinki ), she reached the 200 m butterfly on the 25 m lane with 2: 12.67 minutes, 18th place. Only the Russian Irina Bespalova was from her class faster with 2: 12.59 min. At the last European Youth Championships (July 6-9, 2006 in Mallorca ) she was seventh on the 200 m butterfly course with 2: 16.14 minutes. At the European Youth Olympic Festival 2005 in Lignano Sabbiadoro ( Italy ) she achieved a bronze medal over 400 m medley with 5: 01.13 min and as a starter on the butterfly course with Germany's 4 × 100 m individual relay (with Christin Zenner, Theresa Michalak and Uta Müller on the other routes) a silver medal.

At the 2007 European Junior Championships (July 18-22, 2007 in Antwerp ), she won her first two medals in an international competition. Over the 200 m butterfly she won the silver medal in 2: 11.98 minutes and the bronze medal over 400 m medley in 4: 50.90 minutes. With the 4 × 100 m layer relay (with Christin Zenner, Carolin Rademacher and Lisa Vitting) she reached fourth place as the third starter. In the 100 m butterfly she was fifth with a time of 1: 01.71 min.

National successes

At the German Winter Championships 2006 (November 23-26, 2006 in Hanover ) she achieved the silver medal over 200 m butterfly with 2: 15.39 minutes . At that time she had to admit defeat to Annika Mehlhorn. She is also a multiple German year-old champion over the 200 m and 400 m individual medley, the 100 m and 200 m butterfly and the 200 m freestyle courses.

At the 119th German Swimming Championships , she then achieved the gold medal in the 200 m butterfly with a new personal best of 2: 11.28 minutes. She was by far the youngest title holder of the German Championships in 2007. On the 400 m individual medley course, she finished second with 4: 48.90 minutes, which was also a strong improvement on her personal best so far behind Nicole Hetzer ( SV Wacker Burghausen ). She was seventh in the preliminary run and qualified for the final over 100 m butterfly, but she canceled participation in the final in order to concentrate on the 400 m medley course. The 4 × 100 m individual medley of the SSF Bonn (with Denise Möller, Corinna Richter and Valerie Mülder as other swimmers) was disqualified in fourth place because of a faulty substitution.

At the German junior championships (June 6–9, 2007 in Dortmund ) she was the most successful starter with five gold and one silver medal and thus qualified for the European Junior Championships in Antwerp.

At the German Short Course Championships 2007 in Essen, she achieved second place with 4: 41.80 minutes over 400 m individual medley. She missed the qualification for the short course EM by only 1/10. Over 200 m butterfly she won the bronze medal with a new German age class record in 2: 11.35 minutes and over 100 m butterfly she was fourth in 1: 01.09 minutes.

At the German Swimming Championships in 2011 , she was German champion over 4 × 100 m freestyle and 4 × 200 m freestyle. In April 2013 she became German champion in the 4 × 200 m freestyle.

Sporting goals

Her main goal was to take part in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing . In order to meet the FINA A qualification standard, she would have had to swim the 200 m butterfly in 2: 10.84 minutes or the 400 m medley in 4: 45.08 minutes by May 31, 2008. The DSV standard time (12th place in the world's best list of the year) is around 2:09 minutes for the 200 m butterfly and around 4:44 minutes for the 400 m medley. At times she was in the DSV's Olympic perspective squad consisting of 18 swimmers. On July 10th, 2008 Nina Schiffer won the silver medal in the 200 m butterfly at the World Swimming Championships for Juniors in Mexico. She missed the qualifying time for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing by 15 hundredths.

The swimmer from SG Dortmund received a sports scholarship in 2013 to study in Florida (USA). Nina Schiffer has not appeared internationally since 2013.

Awards

  • Nina Schiffer was named Youth Swimmer of the Year 2006 by the NRW Swimming Association .
  • In the election for swimmer of the year 2006 she came in third behind Daniela Samulski ( SG Bayer Wuppertal / Uerdingen / Dormagen ) and Sonja Schöber ( SG Dortmund ).
  • In December 2007 she received the Sports Promotion Prize 2007 from the Sports Foundation of the Kreissparkasse Rhein-Sieg.
  • She was able to successfully defend the title of “Youth Swimmer of the Year” in 2007 and came fourth in the open ranking behind Sonja Schöber, Daniela Samulski, and Sarah Poewe.
