Rafed Ziad El-Masri (also Almasri, Arabic رافد زياد المصري; * August 10, 1982 in Clausthal-Zellerfeld ) is a former German swimmer of Syrian origin and is now a swimming trainer in Berlin .

Life

Rafed El-Masri was born the son of Syrian immigrants and grew up in Berlin. In 2009 he completed his studies in sports science and philosophy. He has been a member of the German national team since the 2008 Olympic Games . Until then, he started for his parents' homeland, Syria . At the national level, he last swam in November 2009 for the Zehlendorfer TSV of 1888 in Berlin. a. the SG Essen and SG Neukölln its clubs. In February 2017 he took part in a competition for the first time in over 7 years.

On May 11, 2011, El-Masri was hit by a car in an accident and dragged along 200 meters.

successes

In 2001 El-Masri won his first title as German short course champion at the German short course championships over 4 × 50m F. In 2004, El-Masri won silver for the first time on his parade route, the 50m freestyle, behind Carsten Dehmlow at the German Championships in Berlin. In the following three years he won the title of German champion on this route in a row, and in 2006 the title of winter champion. In the 50m freestyle El-Masri held the German record in 21.86 seconds , which he undercut three times in 2008. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , he finished 13th in the semifinals.

For the national team of Syria, El-Masri competed at the 2004 Olympic Games and finished 18th in the 50m freestyle. Two years later he won the gold medal at the Asian Championships on this route.
