Career

Liebs lives in Gerbrunn . She started for SV Würzburg 05 . Her specialty disciplines were the freestyle and back courses , especially the 200 m.

She has been the German record holder for the 200 m freestyle course on the 50 m track since 2007: At the German Winter Championships in November 2006 in Hanover , Liebs missed Franziska van Almsick's world record in the 200 m freestyle by just nine hundredths of a second . Five months later, at the 2007 World Swimming Championships , she improved van Almsick's time by almost a second in the finals when she won silver, which meant a new German record . The time was the second fastest time ever swum over the 200 m freestyle. Only the French winner Laure Manaudou was 16 hundredths of a second faster.

In 2006 Annika Liebs married Stefan Lurz, the brother of Thomas Lurz , who also started for SVW 05 , and took his last name. Stefan Lurz also looked after his wife as a trainer. In 2009 she ended her sporting career. Today she works as a primary school teacher. She has been divorced from Stefan Lurz since November 2013 and her last name is Liebs again.
