Marco di Carli (born April 12, 1985 in Löningen / Lower Saxony ) is a former German swimmer . Di Carli was very versatile and competed in international competitions in the back , freestyle and medial disciplines .
Career
Marco di Carli is police chief commissioner and was in the sports promotion group at the Hessian state police. He trained for a long time at his home club, SV Sigiltra Sögel. In 2001 he moved to the OSP Hamburg to train there under the direction of Dirk Lange. At that time he celebrated his first national and international successes. The cooperation was crowned with the final participation at the Olympic Games in Athens 2004. Here, at the age of 19, di Carli took 8th place over 100 meters back in the final. In 2005 the swimmer followed his trainer Dirk Lange to Pretoria (South Africa). In 2006, di Carli switched to OSP Hessen to complete his training in Frankfurt / Main. For the first time, the swimmer also changed clubs and from then on started for SG Frankfurt . The supervising trainers in Frankfurt were Stefan Döbler (2006–2007), Michael Ulmer (2007), Jörg Bügner (2007–2008) and Martin Grabowski (2008–2011).
After sporting and personal setbacks, the athlete made his comeback in 2011. Under the sporting direction of Michael Ulmer (2011-2013), the athlete managed to regain his previous German record from 2007 over 100 meters freestyle in 48.24 s, as well as the short-term Leadership in the world annual leaderboard over this route. In 2012 di Carli took part in the Olympic Games in London and achieved 6th place with the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay, which also set a new German record in the run-up to the race. In 2013 di Carli moved to Munich at OSP Bayern. Under the direction of Olaf Bünde he prepared for his third participation in the Olympic Games. He missed qualification for the relay race in the 4 × 100 meter freestyle with a time of 48.89 s by only 9 hundredths.
In February 2017, di Carli announced his retirement from competitive sports.

- Silver medals at the 2003 European Youth Championships over 50 and 100 meters back
- Bronze medal at the 2003 European Short Course Championships in Dublin over 100 meters
- Silver medal at the European Championships 2012 in Debrecen with the 4 × 100 meter relay
- Final participation at the Olympic Games 2004 in Athens over 100 meters back (eighth place)
- Final participation at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London with the 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay
- Fourth in the 2005 World Championships in Montreal with the 4 × 100 meter relay
- German champion with a German record over 100 meters freestyle (48.24 s) at the German Championships 2011
