Stefan Pohl (swimmer)
Stefan Pohl (born April 10, 1978 in Merseburg ) is a German swimmer and Olympic participant. The 2 m tall and 88 kg heavy athlete started for SV Halle . His discipline was freestyle swimming .
Career
Pohl was able to place himself several times in German championships:
- DM 200 m freestyle:
- 1997: Master
- 1999: runner-up
- 2000: 3rd place
- 2001: runner-up
- 2002: 3rd place
- DM short course:
- 1995: 3rd place 400 m freestyle
- 1996: runner-up 400 m freestyle, 3rd place 200 m freestyle
- 1998: Champion 400 m freestyle
- 2004: 3rd place 200 m freestyle
Pohl celebrated his greatest successes at European Championships.
- For individual competitions:
- Short-course European Championship 1996 in Rostock : SILVER over 400 m freestyle in 3: 48.10 minutes behind the Italian Emiliano Brembilla (gold in 3: 45.32 minutes) and ahead of the Greek Dimitrios Manganas (bronze in 3: 48.29 Min.).
- As a member of the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay :
- European Championship 1997 in Seville : BRONZE in 7: 18.86 minutes behind Great Britain (gold in 7: 17.56 minutes) and the Netherlands (silver in 7: 17.84 minutes). Team: Lars Conrad , Christian Keller , Stefan Pohl and Steffen Zesner .
- EM 1999 in Istanbul : GOLD in 7: 19.63 minutes ahead of Great Britain (silver in 7: 19.91 minutes) and Russia (bronze in 7: 25.36 minutes). Team: Christian Keller, Stefan Pohl, Lars Conrad and Michael Kiedel . The teams from the Netherlands and Italy placed in front of Germany had both been disqualified.
- EM 2000 in Helsinki : SILVER in 7: 18.96 minutes behind Italy (gold in 7: 16.52 minutes) and ahead of France (bronze in 7: 20.37 minutes). Team: Michael Kiedel, Christian Keller, Stefan Herbst and Stefan Pohl.
- EM 2002 in Berlin : SILVER in 7: 17.59 minutes behind Italy (gold in 7: 12.18 minutes) and in front of Greece (bronze in 7: 20.67 minutes) Team: Moritz Zimmer , Stefan Pohl, Lars Conrad and Stefan Herbst.
At the world championships, however, Stefan Pohl's relay team couldn't win any medals:
- 1998 World Cup in Perth : 4th place (team: Christian Keller, Stefan Pohl, Jörg Hoffmann and Steffen Zesner).
- World Cup 2001 in Fukuoka : 5th place in 7: 17.29 minutes (Team: Johannes Oesterling , Stefan Herbst, Stefan Pohl and Lars Conrad). Gold went to Australia in a world record time of 7: 04.66 minutes.
At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , Pohl competed both as an individual swimmer and with the relay and achieved the following results:
- 200 m freestyle: 16th place (Eighth and last in his semifinals in 1: 50.56 minutes; Gold won the Dutchman Pieter van den Hoogenband in the world record time of 1: 45.35 minutes)
- 4 × 200 m freestyle relay (team: Stefan Pohl, Christian Keller, Stefan Herbst, Christian Tröger , Heiko Hell and Michael Kiedel): 6th place in 7: 20.19 minutes. The gap to the third-placed Dutch was more than 7 seconds.
