Stefan Pohl (swimmer)

Stefan Pohl (born April 10, 1978 in Merseburg ) is a German swimmer and Olympic participant. The 2 m tall and 88 kg heavy athlete started for SV Halle . His discipline was freestyle swimming .

Career

Pohl was able to place himself several times in German championships:

  • DM 200 m freestyle:
    • 1997: Master
    • 1999: runner-up
    • 2000: 3rd place
    • 2001: runner-up
    • 2002: 3rd place
  • DM short course:
    • 1995: 3rd place 400 m freestyle
    • 1996: runner-up 400 m freestyle, 3rd place 200 m freestyle
    • 1998: Champion 400 m freestyle
    • 2004: 3rd place 200 m freestyle

Pohl celebrated his greatest successes at European Championships.

At the world championships, however, Stefan Pohl's relay team couldn't win any medals:

At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , Pohl competed both as an individual swimmer and with the relay and achieved the following results:

  • 200 m freestyle: 16th place (Eighth and last in his semifinals in 1: 50.56 minutes; Gold won the Dutchman Pieter van den Hoogenband in the world record time of 1: 45.35 minutes)
  • 4 × 200 m freestyle relay (team: Stefan Pohl, Christian Keller, Stefan Herbst, Christian Tröger , Heiko Hell and Michael Kiedel): 6th place in 7: 20.19 minutes. The gap to the third-placed Dutch was more than 7 seconds.
