Brita Pia Baldus (born June 4, 1965 in Leipzig ) is a former German water diver who won three European championship titles.

Career

Brita Baldus started for the SC DHfK Leipzig and was a specialist in jumping from the three-meter board; when championships were held on the one-meter board at the end of the 1980s, she was also among the top international players here. In 1981 she won her first GDR championship title. After finishing only third in 1982, she took her most difficult jump, the three and a half forward flip, before the World Championship from the program because she was not confident enough in this jump, and then she finished fifth at the World Championship. In 1983 she won both the GDR championship and the European championship. In 1984 she won the GDR championship again and reached 557.85 points, the highest number of points that a female jumper had ever achieved anywhere in the world. Because of the GDR's Olympic boycott , she missed her first Olympic participation.

In 1985 she won her third GDR title in a row, in 1986 she finished second behind Katrin Bensing . At the 1986 World Cup she was able to reach fifth place again. In 1987 and 1988 Brita Baldus again won the master's title in jumping. At the European Championships in 1987 she received the bronze medal. In 1988 in Seoul she took part in the Olympic Games for the first time and finished seventh. In 1989 she won the first and only GDR championship in jumping from the one-meter board. From the three-meter board she took second place behind Silke Krüger . Brita Baldus also came second at the European Championships in 1989 from the one-meter board behind Irina Laschko and the three-meter board behind Marina Babkowa .

At the beginning of 1991 at the World Cup in Perth, Brita Baldus appeared for the first time for reunified Germany. She won bronze from the three-meter board. In August 1991 at the European Championships in Athens she won the one-meter board and won bronze from the three-meter board. In 1992 Baldus won her only German championship title. At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, ​​Brita Baldus won bronze in jumping. In 1993, at the end of her career, Brita Baldus won the European championship in jumping from the three-meter board.

In 1984 she was awarded the Gold Patriotic Order of Merit in the GDR, and in 1993 with the Silver Laurel Leaf in the FRG .
