Irina Evgenjewna Laschko ( Russian Ирина Евгеньевна Лашко ; born January 25, 1973 in Kuibyshev ) is a former Russian diver who competed for Australia between 2001 and 2006 . She started in artificial jumping from the 1 m and 3 m board and in 3 m synchronized jumping. Laschko won numerous medals at the Olympic Games, World and European Championships and Commonwealth Games. She represented four countries in her four Olympic Games.

Career

Laschko came to an elite sports school at the age of ten, where she learned to jump intensively for ten years. After winning five medals at major international events between 1991 and 1993, she took a little break due to the birth of her daughter Alina in 1994. In 1998 Laschko married the Australian Carol Furler and moved to Melbourne , in 1999 she received Australian citizenship. Laschko wanted to start for Australia for the first time at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , but Russia delayed the release so that she was only left with the role of spectator. The 2001 World Cup was her first big appearance for her adopted home. In 2003 she became the first Australian world champion in diving. In 2006 there was a break with the Australian association after Laschko complained about a lack of support. She moved her training base to Yekaterinburg and started again for her home country Russia at the 2007 World Cup . After missing qualification for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , Laschko ended her active career. She is now back in Australia with her family.

In total, she took part in four Olympic Games. In 1988 in Seoul she started for the Soviet Union and came fourth in jumping from the 3 m board. In 1992 in Barcelona she won the silver medal from the 3m board for the United Team as in 1996 in Atlanta for Russia. In 2004 in Athens she won bronze in the 3 m synchronized jumping with Chantelle Newbery for Australia .

Laschko won three gold and two silver medals at world championships. In 1991 in Perth she won the silver medal from the 3 m board, and in 1998 she was double world champion again in Perth. She won from the 1 m board and together with Julija Pachalina in the 3 m synchronized jumping. In 2001 she won silver from the 3 m board for Australia in Fukuoka and gold from the 1 m board in Barcelona in 2003.

Laschko was also successful at the European Swimming Championships . In 1989 she won gold on the 1m board in Bonn , followed by silver on the 1m board and gold on the 3m board in Athens in 1991 and silver on the 1m board again in Sheffield in 1993 . She won two silver medals each in Seville in 1997 and in Istanbul in 1999, in 1997 from the 1 m board and in 3 m synchronized jumping and in 1999 from the 1 m and 3 m board.

At the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002 , she won the 1 m and 3 m board.
