Ulrich Thoss

Ulrich Thoß (born March 27, 1953 in Grünbach, Vogtland ) was a soccer player in Zwickau and Plauen . For the BSG Sachsenring Zwickau he played in the Oberliga , the highest football class in the GDR .

Thoss played since 1963 in the local company sports community (BSG) Einheit Grünbach, which delegated him to the regional football focus, the upper division BSG Sachsenring Zwickau, at the age of 18 in 1971. There he started his league career on March 4, 1972 as a midfielder in the encounter on the 18th match day of the 1971/72 season BSG Sachsenring - Wismut Aue (1: 1). By the end of the season he had a total of eight league appearances, always in the central midfield. In the following two seasons Thoss was only used very sporadically in the 1st team. On October 6, 1973, the 7th game day of the 1973/74 season, he played his last league game with Sachsenring Zwickau. At 1: 4 at 1. FC Magdeburg, he was substituted on again in the 77th minute. So he had a total of 19 league appearances. He did not achieve goals.

In November 1973, Thoss, a mechanical engineer by profession, was drafted into the military, but was able to continue playing football in the second-rate GDR league with the Vorwärts Plauen army sports community . He stayed with Vorwärts Plauen during his military service and was team captain at times. Until 1981 Toß played with Plauen continuously in the GDR league, after which his team commuted between the district league and the GDR league. He completed his last football season in 1982/83 in the GDR league. After relegated in the summer of 1983, Thoss ended his career as a competitive athlete at the age of 30.
