Jelena Jurjewna Wolkowa ( Russian Елена Юрьевна Волкова ; born May 27, 1968 ) is a former Russian swimmer who competed for the Soviet Union in the 1970s and 1980s and for the United Team in the early 1990s .
Athletic career
Jelena Wolkowa won the gold medal over 200 m chest in front of Linley Frame from Australia and Jana Dörries from Germany and the bronze medal over 100 m chest behind Linley Frame and Jana Dörries at the 1991 World Championships in Perth .
At the European Championships in 1989 in Bonn Wolkowa won the bronze medal over 200 m breaststroke.
At the Olympic Games in 1988 Volkova finished fifth over 100 m chest. At the Olympic Games in 1992 , she took 16th place over 200 m breast and 20th place over 100 m breast.
Wolkowa is married to the Russian swimmer Gennadi Prigoda . Their son Kirill Prigoda (* 1995) is also a swimmer. Since 1993 she has been working as a swimming coach in Saint Petersburg .
