Nađa Higl ( Serbian - Cyrillic Нађа Хигл , also written Nadja Higl ; born January 2, 1987 in Pančevo ) is a swimmer from Serbia .

Life

Nadja's father Dragan Higl (hill) is of German descent and moved from Travnik to Pančevo. There he met his future wife Snežana from Zrenjanin . As a lifeguard, Nadja's father had free access to the swimming pools in the area and taught his two children to swim at an early age. Despite this, Nadja was more interested in ballet at first, but then decided to take up swimming. She won her first medal at the age of ten. Then she set records that are still valid in Serbia today. Her brother Sebastijan, who had been a Serbian swimming champion himself, became the new coach.

Career

The chest swimmer Higl took at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in 2007 in the Hungarian Debrecen for the first time in an international competition. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , she swam over 100 meters as well as over 200 meters chest, but did not get beyond the lead in both distances.

She achieved her greatest sporting success to date at the 2009 Swimming World Championships . Surprisingly, she won the 200 m breaststroke final with a new European record and thus secured the gold medal. She was also at the start over 100 meters, but had to be content with 16th place. At the Summer Universiade 2009 in Belgrade she won the silver medal in 100 and 200 m breasts. At the Short Course Swimming World Cup in Durban in 2009 , she took first place in the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2: 20.41 minutes.
