Amanda Ray Beard (born October 29, 1981 in Newport Beach , California ) is a former American swimmer .

life and career

Beard got into swimming through her older sisters Leah and Taryn.

She made her first appearance at the Olympic Games at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta at the age of 14. Even in the run-up to the competitions, her childlike demeanor attracted media interest. Beard was often photographed with her teddy bear . The Olympic Games were very successful in terms of sport. In the 100 m and 200 m breaststroke, she won a silver medal each. She became Olympic champion together with the US 4 × 100 m individual relay relay.

Four years later at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , Beard had to be content with a bronze medal in the 200 m chest. She won her first major title at the 2003 World Swimming Championships in Barcelona . She became world champion over 200 m breaststroke in the new world record time of 2: 22.99 minutes. She won a silver medal over the 100 m breaststroke and with the 4 × 100 m individual relay relay.

Beard celebrated her greatest success at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , where she became Olympic champion in the 200 m chest. She won the silver medal in over 200 m individual layers and with the 4 × 100 m layer relay.

Others

The US edition of Playboy published nude photos of Beard in its July 2007 issue. Among other things, there was a picture of her on the cover of the magazine.
