Penelope Heyns
Penelope "Penny" Heyns (born November 8, 1974 in Springs ) is a former South African swimmer .
She celebrated her greatest success at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , when she became the first woman to win both the 100 m and the 200 m chest . In addition, these were the first gold medals for South Africa after the country was re-admitted to the Olympic Games in 1992. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , she was able to win another bronze over 100 m breaststroke.
In 1996 and 1999 she was voted World Swimmer of the Year . In 2001 she announced her retirement from swimming. In 2007 she was inducted into the hall of fame of international swimming .
