Lina Kačiušytė

Lina Kačiušytė (born January 1, 1963 in Vilnius ) is a Lithuanian sports official and former swimmer who competed for the Soviet Union in the 1970s and 1980s .

Life

Kačiušytė studied in the 7th Vilnius Middle School in Žirmūnai . From the age of 8, she trained in the school swimming pool with coach Aušrinė Šukytė. From 1974 to 1977 she attended the "Žalgiris" sports school. Her trainer was Arvydas Gražiūnas. In 1985 she graduated from the Vilniaus pedagoginis institutas . Then she worked as a translator from English, Spanish, Russian and then as the chief specialist in the sports subdivision of the Vilnius Municipality Administration .

She is a member of the Lithuanian Olympic Committee .

successes

Her first major international appearance was at the 1978 World Championships in Berlin , when she won the 200m breaststroke title. In the course of the competition she improved the world record twice. At the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 , she was Olympic champion over 200 m breast. In 1979 she was the Soviet champion (200 m).

She was the first woman to swim the 200 m chest under 2: 30.0 minutes. In 1998 she was inducted into the international swimming pool 's hall of fame .
