Medal table

Silke Hörner , married Silke Schuck , (born September 12, 1965 in Leipzig ) is a former German swimmer .

Career

Hörner won numerous medals at European and World Championships as well as at the 1988 Olympic Games . The high point of her career was winning the gold medals in the 200-meter chest and in the 4-by-100-meter individual medley in Seoul .

Hörner improved the world record over 200 meters chest three times. The improvement to 02: 26.71 min at the Summer Olympics in Seoul in 1988 lasted almost three and a half years; only the American Anita Nall swam faster in 1992. Silke Hörner also improved the world record over 100 meters chest at the European Swimming Championships in 1987 in Strasbourg to 01: 07.91 min. This record lasted until 1994 and was only broken by the Australian Samantha Riley .

Silke Hörner is married to the canoeist Alexander Schuck , who also took part in the 1988 Olympic Games. Due to her sporting success at the 1986 World Championships and the 1988 Olympic Games, she received the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold twice .

doping

As with many other top GDR athletes, her numerous successes are questioned, as Hörner could also have benefited from the GDR's state-organized doping program . Several witnesses, such as the former swimming trainer of the ASK Vorwärts Potsdam Michael Regner , and Peggy Jähnichen , a former GDR swimmer, testified that Hörner also consumed the anabolic oral Turinabol to illegally increase performance .
