Hans Joachim Teichler

Hans Joachim Teichler (born August 10, 1946 in Finsterwalde ) is a German sports scientist and sports historian . He was professor for contemporary history of sport at the University of Potsdam .

Live and act

After graduating from high school in 1966, Hans Joachim Teichler studied sports and social science at the University of Bonn with Hajo Bernett and Karl Dietrich Bracher . In 1990 he did his doctorate at the University of Bochum under Horst Ueberhorst with the thesis International Sports Policy in the Third Reich .

From 1990 to 1993, Hans Joachim Teichler was sports advisor for the SPD parliamentary group and for several years spokesman for the sports history section of the German Association for Sports Science . He has also been a liaison professor at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation for many years .

From 1994 to 2011 he was professor for contemporary history of sport at the Institute for Sport Science at the University of Potsdam . His work focuses on workers' sport, sport policy in the Third Reich, the political and social role of sport in the GDR and the culture of remembrance in German sport. He retired in 2011.
