Giselher Spitzer

Giselher Spitzer (* 1952 in Kiel ) is a German sports historian.

Life

Spitzer studied history , social sciences and sports sciences in Bonn . In 1982 the doctorate followed. paed., 2000 the Venia legendi for sports science. From 1981 to 1994 he worked as an employee in Bonn and Cologne, from 1994 to 2004 at the University of Potsdam . From 2000 and 2002 he was a private lecturer at the University of Potsdam and Humboldt University in Berlin . Spitzer is a permanent visiting professor at the Institute of Sports Science & Clinical Biomechanics at the University of Odense in Denmark. He was co-founder and editor of the journal Sozial- und Zeitgeschichte des Sports from 1987 to 2001 and a founding member and member of the Steering Committee International Network on Humanistic Doping Research . From 2003 to 2005 he was a permanent guest of the Prevention Commission of the National Anti-Doping Agency Germany , NADA Bonn Foundation.

In 2003 Spitzer was awarded the Heidi-Krieger-Medal for his commitment to the scientific analysis of compulsory doping across the board in competitive sports in the GDR . From 2009 to March 2012 he was part of the project team for the project “ Doping in Germany from 1950 to today from a historical-sociological perspective in the context of ethical legitimation ” of the Federal Institute for Sports Science .
