Johannes Weberling

Johannes Weberling (born June 19, 1958 in Biberach an der Riss ) is a German lawyer , historian and university professor in the fields of media law , labor law and Stasi documents .

Life

Johannes Weberling, son of the botanist Focko Weberling , studied law and history at the universities of Gießen , Freiburg and Bonn . He is a member of the Frankonia Gießen fraternity in 1979 and was national chairman of the Ring of Christian Democratic Students (RCDS) from 1981 to 1983 . The first state examination he took in 1986, 1989 took place at Ulrich Kluge the Promotion Dr. phil. and the second state examination in law. From 1989 to 1992 Weberling was assistant to the management of the GSF Research Center for Environment and Health , Neuherberg near Munich. From 1990 he was a lawyer in Berlin with a focus on media and labor law as well as Stasi documents. In the context of the so-called Cicero affair , Johannes Weberling successfully represented the journalist Johannes von Dohnanyi . Usually he represented the side of daily newspapers. From 1992 to 1996 he was Head of Human Resources and Legal at the Berliner Zeitung and Berliner Kurier .

Since 1995 he has been the deputy chairman of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Verlagsjustitiare, since 1998 a member of the editorial board of the AfP - Journal for Media and Communication Law and since 2000 a part-time member of the Berlin-Brandenburg State Judicial Examination Office .

Johannes Weberling is the initiator of the study and research focus media law at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder), founded in 2001, and since 2005 honorary professor for media law at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder).

Since 2008 he has headed the commission investigating the involvement of the editors of the Berliner Zeitung and the Berliner Kurier in the Stasi . In December 2009 he was appointed to the supervisory board of Bremer Tageszeitungen AG . Since 2010 Weberling has also headed the Wiki-Watch department at the Viadrina European University in Frankfurt (Oder), which he set up together with Wolfgang Stock .
